Asian Drama Review : Just You (2013)

Recently, I have been watching a lot of Asian dramas. I was influenced by my book blogger friend, Faye of The Social Potato Reviews. Since watching Mischievous Kiss : Love in Tokyo, I’ve been on the lookout for a really good Asian drama that is light, and will put a smile to my face.

The last one that I just finished is Just You.

JustYou

Plot : Qi Yi (Aaron Yan) is a fastidious young man who is afraid of germs and needs to have everything in his life in his own orderly fashion. After he gives up a successful opportunity in New York, he returns to Taiwan and decides to buy a small marketing design company called GAZE and a historic home that catches his eye. The problem is that the home has a peppy tenant, Cheng Liang Liang (Puff Guo), who refuses to move out. When he arrives at his new company, the new CEO discovers that Liang Liang also works for his company. The happy-go-lucky Liang Liang just wants everything to be stable in her life, but she realizes that may be harder to maintain when her new boss starts making big changes in her workplace, including a notice stating that office romances will be prohibited. “Just You” is a 2013 Taiwanese drama series that airs on SETTV.

Honestly, I am not  a fan of subtitled TV-shows, but ever since Mischievous Kiss, I couldn’t stop looking for shows that I can waste hours with. So when I discovered Just You on Viki, I was hooked!

What makes this drama special is the quirkiness of the main characters, especially Puff Guo’s character, Cheng Liang Liang. I have to be honest that it does have the basic Asian drama formula, but the side characters make up for it. I created a special place in my heart for Dean Fujioka who plays, Dean, the third person in the love triangle. Even though he really liked Cheng Liang Liang a lot, he always chooses what’s best for her, and if it’s seeing her smile and happy, he would do it. I also admired Aaron Yan’s character as the strict boss, Qi Yi. He was very effective in his portrayal that there are times when I felt frustrated with some scenes.

And then the psycho ex-girlfriend of Qi Yi showed up. It stirred up a lot of unwanted emotions from me because I really wanted to get rid of that girl! It hurt when Liang Liang cried hysterically over something that the psycho ex-girlfriend said. Dean arrived first to rescue her, and it was one of those scenes that made me wish that the second guy gets the girl.

Overall, the TV show was fantastic. It was squeaky-clean with sprinkles of so many warm fuzzies that sent positive chills to my body. You’ll find yourself smiling a lot whilst watching this drama, and it will definitely make you want to root for Dean! (And Liang Liang and Qi Yi)
